Washingtion D.C
Introduction
Work on a hook: How will I start the essay in an interesting way?
Have you ever wanted to visit the capital of the U.S? If you have than you should go to Washington D.C. because Washington D.C is the capital. Have you ever wanted to go see where the President lives? If so, you really should go to Washington D.C to see the White House. Planning a trip to D.C takes a time and advanced planning but it’s worth it. Transportation is important to getting there and getting around the city.
Washington D.C has a lot of cool sites to see such as the White House, Lincoln memorial, and many more sites.
Main Idea #1:
Advanced planning ensures that you have all the details in place. The details you need to plan for are when your going, where you going to stay, how you’re going to get there, how you will get around once you get there, where you’ll eat, and what you will see while you’re there.
You also have to think about how much money you want to spend. For example, here are two different costs of ways to get there. Taking the AmTrak Train costs $76 round-trip for a child and $152 for an adult. Flying round-trip costs between $230.00 and $275.00, and it’s the same for kids and grown-ups. It is better to take the train because if you did drive it would take you 10 hours. Also the gas prices keep getting higher and you would have to stop for gas a lot. You could fly and it would take less time but it would cost more money. If you took the train it would take longer but it would be cheaper.
If you want to go tour the White House you have to get tickets at least a month before you go. Planning ahead helps you do everything you want to do while you’re there.
Main Idea 2:
If you take the train down to Washington D.C, you will get in at Union Station. Then, you can take a taxi to your hotel. Taxi’s were hard to catch, except for the hotel and at the train station.
The Metro , the underground train brings you places, it is really fun to take. Some places call them the Subway. They are the same thing but different places call them different things. If you do a lot of walking I suggest you
get a pedometer to see how far you walk each day. The metro is a train that goes under ground and hardly goes out of the ground. You know that there is a metro station because there will ether be an escalator or stairs. Then when you get down to the bottom you get off and then if you have a metro card that is when you use it but if you don’t have one or it does not have any more money on it then you go over to the atm’s and you put your credit card in and if it asks you to put in your metro card than you put it in and if you don’t have a metro card yet you will put your credit card ion and then you will get a metro card. After you get your metro card you will see these bars that are attached to a metal thing and they have 3 lines that you put your card throw and then it will turn green and then you will be able to walk throw and get the metro to were ever you are going.
Main Idea 3:
The next day you can go and visit cool sites. Many of the sites are free, but some charge general admission. Here is a list of free sites: the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the United States Holocaust Museum, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Women’s Memorial, the National Postal Museum, and many more.
One example is The International Spy Museum. The museum has four different areas with four different costs: Operation Spy, $14; Spy In The City $14; Spy At Night, $20; Spy City Tour, $59.
When you get tired of visiting all the cool sites, you can go back to your hotel when ever you feel like it. You can get where you are going either by a taxi or the metro. If you take the metro you might have to walk a little but not far.
Washington D.C is a fun place to visit because of the many sites to see. With advanced planning, you get an inside tour of the White House. If you go I really think that you should go to the places that I suggested. The weather also is grate. It is a long train ride but it is worth it.
